The M101 CDN 2 1/4 ton trailer has been used by Militaries all over the world and is often found behind Jeeps, G-Wagons, and in Canada, the VW Iltis. Currently we have two M101 CDN 2's in the shop, one for the HUMMER and the other for the Series III Rover. These trailers are the perfect companion for any trail. They are small, quite light, and easily towed on and off-road. These particular trailers are M101 CDN 2's (they don't use the 416 designation in Canada) and are model year 1988's. They were in as new condition when we bought them having been stored for the past few years.
Being in such good condition they didn't need any work. However, I decided to have one painted silver to match the HUMMER and both have received 235/85/16 Goodyear MT/R's instead of the 6X16 Michelins. Below are some pictures of the disassembly.
Of course I had to sandblast and powder-coat all the parts I took off, and replace all the factory Grade 8 hardware while I was at it. Here are the latest pictures of the final assembly before I take it to the paint shop for the final coating. I managed to find some ARB Old Man Emu Poly. suspension bushings for it since the factory ones were becoming a pain to locate. Right now I'm in the process of locating shocks for it.
Here are some pics from the day I rolled it out of the garage for the first time. I've installed Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's to match the HUMMER and replaced all the bearings and seals. It's ready to head to the paint shop where the fenders will be installed, then I can install the rest of the misc. parts left in the garage.
September 2005, fresh from the paint shop. I had the "frame" left black to match the HUMMER as well as the underside and all the suspension parts. I also had the bed sprayed with Line-X, so it's ready to have the finishing touches installed and head back out on the trail.
It's October 2005 and the 416 is almost finished. All the accessories have been installed, the brakes are installed and adjusted, and everything has been checked over. The only thing left is to install the new LED truck-lite lights and wire them up to the 7-pin connector to mate up to the HUMMER, and install the new tarp to cover over the bed. Here you can also see the Old Man Emu shocks and poly bushings, and the extra ground clearance provided by the new MT/R tires.
