The Anza-Borrego desert is probably where we spend the majority of our time while touring the deserts of California, mostly for its proximity to San Diego. The State park is one of the largest parks in the USA and so far, has been a friendly place to take your 4WD. The desert has some scenic and challenging trails as well as good hikes, and beautiful scenery, especially during the flower season in March. Most of the time we headed to this area was for weekend and day trips and although it is hot in the summer, can be explored all year around.
