COLORADO.....

Colorado – Aug./Sept. 1999

Late in August, Eore and I left San Diego to meet Moe and his dog, Soli, in Buena Vista Colorado(approx. 1000 miles). I drove out highway 10 to thread my way up out of the desert basin through areas like Arizona’s Peeples Valley, Sedona, and Jerome. It was three leisurely days of incredible scenery along predominantly 2 lane roads suiting the old machines happiest cruise of about 40 mph.

In Colorado the colors where changing making lower elevations incredible displays of the full spectrum of reds, yellows, and greens. In the high elevations we were often plowing virgin snow and on one particular day faced near white out conditions. We remained 12 days in the mountains along trails like pearl pass, California pass, Engineer pass, etc.– hoteling it just two. Only one hike this trip - we climbed to Ice Lake for an over-nighter followed by an early morning summit. Definitely a highlight of the trip.

Mechanical problems – cracked heater core on the way home, wiper switch ate itself (a sign of things to come – it’s now 8 months later and the wiper motor is apart on my work bench), one fuse, and a tranny to T-case internal seal failure….again.

Summer of 2003:

Henry, his wife Michelle,  and I, returned to Colorado to explore the trails around Ouray and Telluride.  This is an amazing area, one which we hope to visit again really soon.  This was quite a trip for us.  We got caught on the mountain in a thunderstorm and had to spend the night in the truck waiting for the loader to come up in the morning and fix the washed out trails.  It is quite something to be driving along a winding mountain road in the rain with rocks falling from above and bouncing off the truck.
