REDWOOD'S TRIP 2006:

Terry and Lynn (Tan '96), Dennis (White OT 95) and I, headed up the California Coast on Scenic Hwy #1 in search of the biggest Redwood trees we could find.  It took 2 days to drive up there from San Diego and Route 1 didn't disappoint.  It is amazing how the scenery, the people, and the cities change the further North you get.  With so much highway driving it was hard to take too many photos since I didn't want to drive my truck off the cliffs of Highway 1.  I did manage to get a few shots of Redwood State Park, and of our camp sites along the way.  One thing that hit me along the route was just how open and lonely the desert can be in comparison.  We spent some time on the USAL road (an old logging road) and camped on the beach for a night, but you just can't beat the desert for days and days of lonely places.  It was a great trip regardless, and definitely worth the drive up route #1, and it is hard to put into words just how big those giant Redwoods can be (50+ feet around and 300+ feet tall - check out the pic below of Terry the Tree hugger).  Total trip was 1,906 miles.
